Problems with the BCS College Football

The BCS (Bowl Championship Series for short) is designed to determine who plays in the championship game nationally. Only the top two college football teams will be selected. This system was created in 1998 as a means for the first two teams play for the national level to select.

Initially, when the best system to adopt plans, human voices were taken into account. It would be a flawed system, because if it relies solely on the human voice, that teams do not function well, but the popular games can be voted year after year. There is always the danger of bias Ness people to vote rather than performance. It will be hard to keep people happy.

In this problem, the computer is in sight. In addition to the voices of writers Associated Press and coaches in the BCS system also uses the seven methods of computer ranking to reach a total score. Several factors such as casualties, the number of victories, in comparison with the teams top, etc., are the ranking formulas. The two teams with the lowest total score will play in the championship game nationally. However, this system is not without its share of problems.

For example, in 2000, both Florida State and Miami lost a single match. When the man's voice came, Miami was voted as the second team and Florida State, finished third. Surprise However, everyone, if the computer did the calculations, Florida actually came second - before Miami. This means that the state of Florida actually qualified for the national finals. Of course, some fans are not happy with the results.

In 2001, Nebraska lost to Colorado in the last game and they do not win their conference. Colorado emerged as the best team by winning their conference. Voters Rights has accepted, and most roots in Colorado. However, when the computer rankings, everyone was surprised again - Nebraska qualified! Everyone thought the BCS system should have Bonkers.

But how computers can be completely wrong? Indeed, they are simply following a set of input instructions of the man supposedly deserves choose two teams play in the national games. Their main function is to never make everyone happy. In fact, an impossible task.

While the teams of the BCS system chosen, there will be some who will be happy. Of course, all college football fans want their favorite team to qualify. If they support the team does not qualify, they will be unhappy, and they will blame the BCS system. That may be why, year after year, new cracks in the BCS system kept regenerating.

Of course, no system of this perfect world. All major league sports, including NFL and NBA have their own systems, and they are not perfect. But the bottom line is, they get the job done. Until a better system could be proved better than the current system works, the BCS system stays.
